Cats are known for their picky eating habits, but it’s important to be aware of the foods that can be dangerous for them. Many of the human foods we eat daily can be toxic to cats and should never be fed to them. Cats don’t have the same nutritional requirements as humans and it can be dangerous for them to consume certain foods. It’s important to avoid feeding your cat anything from this list of dangerous human foods for cats so that she stays healthy and safe!

1) Onions

If a cat eats onion, he may experience gastrointestinal discomfort that leads to vomiting. Onion powder is just as dangerous, so keep it well out of your kitty’s reach. The chemical in onions that causes problems for cats is thiosulphate, which affects red blood cells and stops them from being able to carry oxygen. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they need a high amount of protein in their diet but no plant material.

2)  Grapes and Raisins

Grapes and raisins are poisonous to cats because they’re toxic. They contain high levels of acid, which causes kidney failure in felines. Ingesting as little as a single grape can be fatal to your cat, so you need to keep all grapes out of reach of your cat at all times. If you have kids, you should make sure they understand not to give their pet any grapes or raisins, either.

3) Macadamia Nuts

While macadamia nuts are a delicious snack for humans, they can be toxic to cats. They can also cause an allergic reaction in some felines. 4) Avocado

While these fruits are delicious on toast, they aren’t meant for our furry friends. The leaves, pits, and seeds of avocados contain persin, a toxin that can cause heart failure in felines. Avocado oil is also toxic to cats, so save your guacamole for yourself and keep it far away from Fido.

5) Chocolate

Chocolate contains methylxanthines, which are dangerous for dogs and cats. Theobromine (the chemical in chocolate that makes you feel good) is toxic to dogs and cats. The ASPCA recommends feeding chocolate to your cat under no circumstances, as even small amounts can be fatal. Also, keep in mind that caffeine – a common ingredient in chocolate – can kill your cat.

6) Coffee and Tea

Coffee and tea contain tannic acid and caffeine, which can be lethal for cats. Both substances cause irregular heart rates, high blood pressure, and even death in cats.

7) Yeast Dough

Leftover dough, even if it’s been wrapped well and refrigerated, can grow mold that is toxic to cats. The same goes for any flour products your cat may come across while you’re baking—don’t let Fluffy help you knead your next batch of cookies. Instead, feed him his own specially formulated kitty treats.

8) Alcoholic Beverages

Let’s start with perhaps one of the easiest and most obvious don’ts: alcohol. This might seem counter-intuitive, but not only can your cat get drunk if you give it beer or wine, but there is also a risk that your sweet little tabby could become addicted to booze. Additionally, studies have shown that even small amounts of alcohol pose a danger to a cat’s health.
